Totally the most overrated restaurant in Birmingham. I can make much better curry at home by buying the canned curry paste and coconut milk at one of the Asian markets. That's actually what they probably do, except add a bunch of sugar as well. Most everything is unnecessarily sweet. The service is decent and friendly, but its a far cry from restaurant-quality Thai food. Two out of five stars.

I completely disagree with the above. It is not authentic Thai food. It's Surin food. It's amazing, it's delicious, but it's not something you would get in Thailand. Maybe not the best thai place in town (though I've yet to find a good authentic thai place, and I've looked) but it's probably the best moderately priced restaurant in Birmingham. Get the coconut soup, the panang curry, the masaman curry, the warm chicken salad, or if you make it for lunch get the chicken noodle bowl (out of this world good). If you hate Surin you're either deluding yourself or you didn't order the right thing (beef noodle bowl = gross).
Simply the Worst Thai experience ever...Great place to hang out and drink in a loud atmosphere! Thai inspired food at best and SUSHI does not belong..... do you go to your favorite Italian place and expect to order a taco? Sad to see Asian foods lumped together and the loss of authenticity and culture! Service was poor as well.
Very overrated. I paid $14 for some cheap-tasting chicken fried rice with onions and peas. Yuck...
I frequent Surin West a lot - true it's not authentic Thai food but it's good food! And it's one of the few places where I actually like the way they cook their tofu. I get the masaman chicken but get tofu instead and sprinkle the chili powder all over it and it's mmm mmm good! Love the coconut soup, crab angels, chicken baskets, super crunch, curry chicken, and the thai noodles. Never have had a bad experience...
Incredibly overrated. I go for lunch now and then cuz its cheap. I agree most things are too sweet.
Surin is a favorite in my family. We know we will always get delicious food, prompt service and reasonable prices. We have probably tried everything on the menu and we have enjoyed it all. If you want a reliable meal you will never be disappointed with Surin.
