Iguana Grill

Beautiful restaurant decorated by a top Mexican interior designer, with both traditional Tex-Mex favorites and more traditional Hispanic fare. Don't miss the tamales.

Several coworkers and I gave The Iguana a try and were really pleased. First of all, the Mexican-themed shopping center is very bright and shiny. But it is only a small indicator of the atmosphere The Iguana offers. From a waterfall, to punched tin lanterns, to a leather topped table with a lazy Susan, this isn't a standard Mexican restaurant. And, the food isn't either. The lunch specials offer a number of standard, Tex-Mex items, but also some really great sounding (and looking) specialties. I had a taco/enchilada/rice/beans combo plate - the #4 Speedy Gonzales special. Several colleagues had marinated steak burritos topped with cheese sauce. Another had a grilled chicken taco salad with marinated vegetables, which looked like a work of art. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The quality of the food was super. It was fresh tasting, not at all greasy, and priced to compete with any Mexican restaurant in town. Two complimentary salsas were offered. Particularly good was one that contained roasted peppers. And, our server could not have been nicer. My colleagues and I will be back, and will be spreading the word to our friends. The Iguana is one of those places that you want to make it!

great food. I really like the atmosphere! My wife and I went with my parents one night, and had a few liters of their Texas Margaritas. They were incredible. Service was hit and miss...
Food- 9/10
Drinks- 10/10
Service- 5/10
So we go back for lunch the other day... a late lunch, I imagine at 230, they were probably down to two or three servers, still... there were only 4 tables sat in the entire restaurant, and our server was NEVER around! I asked twice for more salsa, she finally came around when we were finished eating, and said "OK, I've got your salsa coming right out..." and I was already asking for a to-go box.
Don't let this stop you from going... ANDDD!!!!! I know how people are.... JUST because it's in a location DEEMED the "Mexican Village" due to the mexican grocer and a few other Latino themed stores, doesn't mean they don't want you there! This place is GREAT!
As a frequent Mexican food critique I think this is the best TEX-MEX in the great MAGIC city..
Unfortunately on our last trip to the Iguana Grill the chicken mole was no longer on the menu. We visited on a Sunday specifically because this dish was available only on Sat/Sun. Apparently it just didn't sell well enough for the time and trouble required, according to a quick exchange with someone who appeared to be in a management capacity. Birmingham's loss I'm afraid, because it was a delicious and special entre.
Great tex-mex! Highly recommended.
Great Mexican. One of my favorites in town. Great atmosphere and wonderful food. Staff is always friendly with great service. And good margaritas too! Highly recommend.
My Husband and I & another couple was very disappointed with the Ignuana Grill. We came dress casual in Slacks with close shoes. They would not serve us because my husband had on a sleeveless shirt he paid $100.00 for.Thats was the manager excuse for not serving us..There was women there with Haulter tops on & flip flops. Also while we was being turned away there was others getting off work that came in with dirty clothes on and flip flops that was being served. We should not be judged by our National Orgin..we was very surprised and it was very rude of them to treat us the way they did.At first we thought it was a Joke. We are Members of the CMA and we did report this to the BBB and the News Stations..We will never go back there again.

Pretty good! Stuff from the grill is seasoned well.
Oh, and I'm not one that really enjoys paying more for decor (I tend to prefer low-key), but the decor was really nice.
I'm not sure if national origin was a factor in the above's rejection, since I've gone with very diverse crowds of international students. However, I do think any rejection in a restaurant for dress is stupid and that it was likely about snobbery than anything else. (A $100 sleeveless shirt is still a sleeveless shirt...)
I read your article and review of Iguana Grill in Hoover. I probably agreed with you until last night. Friend carried me there for my birthday. Food was great. Then they came out with the hat and started the singing, which I normally don’t like just because I don’t like to be highlighted; however, since it seemed to be more enjoyable for my friends I thought ok, I will just enjoy it. One of the waiters decided to try to feed me the food and after numerous times of saying no he put the spoonful of whip cream, cinnamon, and honey on my face. You could tell I was not happy with this at all but did not receive an apology at all.
I love Iguana's. My husband and I love TexMex. From the decor to service to prices, Iguana's is a hit to me.
Love this place! Great service, fun atmosphere, great food, great Texas margaritas. Highly recommend. Not your everyday Mexican place.
We've been there numerous times for lunch and never had a bad experience. The service has been prompt and the food well prepared.
The Salsa music makes me dance. I love the slow songs and as I dance through the crowd the music moves inside of my soul. As I tasted my taco I realized this must be heaven. Iguana grill nothing is better.
Being from Texas...love, love Iguana Grill. Finally have great Tex-Mex food in B'ham. Great Tamales and I crave the roasted pepper salsa. Beautiful decor. Enjoy it every time
