Lunch and dinner. Full bar, banquet facilities. Offering a wide range of Indian dishes, including Southern Indian dishes not previously available in this area, Indo-Chinese dishes, chicken, lamb, seafood, vegetarian. The atmosphere is nice enough for date night but family-friendly, too. A personal favorite.

Being an indian, I cannot help but crave for indian food every now and again. So as soon as I heard about this place I had to go check it out. It is very new and the owners are still working on getting their bearings. But all the times that I have been there the quality of the food was always impeccable. They also have a lunch buffet which is surprisingly freshly cooked, and complete with naan breads. The tandoori chicken served in the buffet was finger licking delicious. While ordering off the menu, if you like hot and spicy food, you need to specify it to the server. The menu is vast, but the servers are knowledgeable and answer your questions.

For dinner, I had fish curry and my husband had chicken curry. Both the dishes were cooked well, but not as hot and spicy as we like, since we were cautious while ordering. I believe they have a tandoor, which is a clay oven, in which the naan bread and the tandoori chicken is made. This gives it a very authentic taste.

Overall, every visit has been very satisfying. Once the owners get the process streamlined, this could be one of the best and crowded eating places. (August 2006)

As a transplany from Cali, I still think this is genuinely good Indian food. Def one of the best restaurants in Bham.

I missed my favorite Indian places so much when we moved here from Atl. 3 yrs ago - but Silver Coin is as good or better! The dining room is attractive and upscale. The servers and management are so friendly that this is the only place we dare to bring our twin toddlers. They are cooed over so much that we can eat in peace while the staff entertains them. The buffets are always very hot and fresh with lots of good southern Indian dishes and always a little something sweet. We order to-go whenever our parents are in town b/c they love it as well. Everything is delicious, but we especially like the Chicken Mahknani, Chana Masala, Idly, and Lamb Rogan Josh. Mmmmmm...I think I need another curry fix soon!

Silver Coin is definitely a MUST! Don't be hesitant if you've never had Indian food... and if you haven't, this is the place to have that first experience.

I love the Shrimp Vindaloo (I ordered it medium because when they say hot, they mean HOT). The Karahai Ghost (medium), which is a lamb dish is also very good.. We couldn't decide which was better. If you do go, make sure to get one of their breads... They have a "Tandoori Exotic Breads" selection and we got the Garlic Nan (which is leaveneed bread sprinkled with garlic). Next time, I'll try the Cheese Garlic Rosemary Bread.

We have also tried the Vegetable Somasa, which are deep fried patties stuffed with mildly spiced potatoes and peas... pretty good in my opinion.

We kept on having to take in this wonderful aroma of what smelled like fajitas (sizzling meats) and I don't know what it was, but from the aroma, I really want to try it on my next visit!

And, of course, we drank the Indian Import King Fisher for our beer selection.

I can't WAIT to go back!!!

I travel on business and often dine alone. So, I arrived at Silver Coin returning from a business trip recently. I arrive, dressed nicely in a skirt and sweater. I was offered a cluttered bar seat and when I declined, the hostess spent several moments (with PLENTY of empty tables) walking back and forth...it was VERY clear she was unhappy with seating a single diner. I inquired finally if there was a problem and she seated me. The service then was poor while other diners around me were served faster and better. The food was good but the unfriendliness to a single diner was awful as was the service. I'm not in a hurry to go back.

I loved Maharaja of India when I lived in Tuscaloosa, and have missed it since I moved to BHM. When I read the Silver Coin restaurant review on Bhamdining.com, I knew we had to try it. We loved it! The naan was warm and flaky, and the chicken tikka masala was melt-in-your-mouth tender. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. I can't wait to go back -- I know it will be soon!

silvercoin has really become a best place for us to dine in in bham, The restaurant is beautifully decorated and is spacious with very good parking area.Food is so yummy...hmmmmmmmmmmm.....chicken tikka masala is the best. I was amazed to see the long crepe on a table next to me, and asked my server, she told it was paper masala dosa. I wanted to try it then but was already full so made up my mind to try that in my next visit.the food was excellent and bread was the best. I tried the mix tandoori platter and chicken tikka masala with one of my meal as a combo and that was so good experience to taste different variety. the server was really very helpful and the mangement was so organized. But, the only unprofessional part of the restaurant was the hostess. I saw her walking without her shoes in the dining room and was dressed in an unprofessional way. everything else was superb. Thanks to the server, she was very knowledgeable and helpful for the fisrt time diner. I walked home with a pack of to go the leftovers.
