Reservations suggested. A hidden gem in Cahaba Heights; can hold its own against the best restaurants in town. With the tagline of "where fine dining meets relaxation," Satterfield's is "classy yet unpretentious, upscale yet comfortably casual," reported Birmingham News' City Scene. The menu changes to reflect what's seasonably available, but examples include Molasses Braised White Pheasant with handcrafted pappardelle, Snow's Bend winter vegetables, black trumpet mushrooms and sage; Fennel Dusted Loin of Coloardo Lam with crushed white beans, cardamom scented baby carrots, swiss chard and Cabernet lamb jus; and Chipotle and Spice Rubbed Duroc Pork Chop with sweet potato chile relleno, black bean coulis, avocado-corn relish and ancho chile oil. Reservations suggested; patio dining available; special bar menu on Mondays and Tuesdays.

To date, I have only been here once, but it was a memorable experience. The food and service were both good. I had a steak that was prepared perfectly. The appetizer and dessert were excellent as well.

We had a great meal here celebrating my birthday. The food was excellent and so was the service.

My wife and I went to Satterfield's for our 5th anniversary. We normally go to Hot & Hot for special occassions, but wanted to try something new. We'd been once previously for dessert, and had enjoyed it, so we thought we'd give the entire dining experience a try.

The meal and service was quite good. I ordered the glazed pork chop which was at least two inches thick. My wife ordered the Maine Scallops which were also extremely large. Both dishes were of high quality and quite tasty. The pork was perfectly cooked and juicy. The glaze and the char on the outside were delicious with the apples and buckwheat pancake, although the swiss chard with which it was served did not add much to the dish and the pancacke got soggy after a few minutes. Overall the food quite good although it didn't have that "something special" that would really make me want replace Hot & Hot as our regular special occassion restaurant.

That being said, the real standout for me was my dessert, which was the "chocolate berry cake" served with a blueberry compote and spiced merengue. It was a similar "cake" as I'd had on my previous visit, a pear cake, that was about an two inches in diameter and equally as tall. Both pasteries were ingenious treats that used innovative flavors and presentation to create balanced not-too-sweet but still decadent desserts. The chocolate dessert integrated Chinese five spice powder, for example. The spice was subtle and emerged after a few bites. I've previously commented on the pear dessert on this board, saying that it was tart and light and fresh. I'd highly recommend trying one of the pastery-type desserts for any Satterfield's visit, even if it is just for drinks and dessert.

Also, I'd echo the request by bhamdining for Primavera coffee to be served (as opposed to ... Royal Cup!?!). I'd visit Satterfield's frequently for coffee and dessert if the owner could pair up some of the special roasts from Cahaba Height's other fine "food" (i.e. coffee) establishment with their excellent pastry desserts.

My husband and I have been fans of Satterfields since it first opened. We look forward to dining there on special occasions. We ate dinner at Satterfields last Thursday and for the first time ever, we were extremely disappointed. The service was horrible. We waited quite a long time for our appetizer while at the same time we watched our entrees sit under the heating lamp and then finally moved to the warming oven. Our red wine was chilled. When we received our entrees that had been sitting in the warming oven, our food did not taste fresh. My husband commented that his grade of beef was not the quality it used to be. In fact, he commented that the grade of beef we purchase at Publix was much better!
It was just an overwhelmingly disappointing evening. I hope it was just an off night for this restaurant, but quite frankly, I'm doubtful we will return to find out.

We finally made it back to Satterfield's and I am so glad we did. We went last night for dinner and we had a wonderful meal. My husband had a pasta dish with shrimp, mussels and octopus. He said it was fantastic. I had the cobia - excellent. The basamati salad it was served over was delicious. I couldn't believe how good it tasted.
We started our meal with the cheese plate and ended it with beignets.
We had a wonderful evening the food and service were perfect.
