In addition to coffee and tea, Lucy's offers sandwiches, salads, baked goods and more at good prices weekdays. Warm, friendly atmosphere, retro furniture and funky artwork. Free wireless internet access, outdoor seating. For breakfast, a variety of baked goods plus the Egg MacLucy sandwich. At lunch, a variety of Panini grilled sandwiches on toasted ciabatta bread from Edgar's Bakery (including several vegetarian choices), plus homemade soup, Zapp's chips and a couple of salad options. City Scene gave high marks to the smoked turkey sandwich, with smoked gouda, tomato chutney and arugula.

Lucy's is pretty much an instution on our block of UAB. Not only are all of the coffees excellent (never bitter and overroasted like *bucks), paninis super fresh, homemade soup gourmet, and brownies addictive - but Lucy and her staff are some of the nicest people in B'ham. I've never been anywhere where the owner knows your name and regular order after the first few visits and remembers it even if you only frequent her place a few times a month. Stop by for the expresso, stay for lunch and, don't forget your brownie! (and bring me one too)
