Golden City Chinese Restaurant

Lunch and dinner. Beautiful, if a bit shabby, surroundings. Very good, typical Chinese-American food. Some of the best hot-and-sour soup in town.

Definitely one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the Birmingham area.
In it's cozy, Chinese themed decor with murals and velvet cloth seating, you shouldn't have to complain about the atmosphere.
Everything that I've tried on the menu is a plus. From their Mongolian beef to their sesame chicken, to their sweet and sour chicken, it's all really good. Their sizzling rice soup is definitely worth trying. Their egg rolls, well, they're good, but nothing out of the ordinary.
While the service is extremely on top of things, rushing to your water glass although you've only finished half of it, you almost want to stop the interruptions. But between not having anything to drink or having someone constantly refilling your glasses, I'll take the later.
I've been there many, many times and will continue to visit.
The restaurant is nice. I have to say. However, I will never eat there again because I found a half ROACH hidden in the middle of the plate (don't know who ate the other half).
So don't be fooled by its outside. I bet you will never eat there again if you peek into its kitchen.
Trust me! Don't eat there.
This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in town. No Kung Pao Bow Wow here, only the best quality ingredients with no mystery meat. Great service and prices too. If the Teryaki Trio is on the Special Board, you must try it. It was awesome!
This place used to be a reliably decent dining choice, with friendly, attentive service and well-prepared, generous dishes.
However, sometime in the past year or so, they have acquired either new owners or management, and things have gone worse than downhill.
If you like partially cooked shrimp, seriously angry/mean waiters, and restrooms so filthy that your panties will run away screaming, this could be the place for you. Otherwise, save your money and health and head to Ginza on Valleydale (our fave) or Stix by the Galleria. Seriously.
There Mandarin Chicken is the BEST! I have had several dishes here over the years. One of my favorite places. I do not live in the area but definitely worth the drive.
