Silvertron has been a neighborhood staple in Forest Park for 20 years, with a little bit of everything on the menu. New owner Marco Morosini has kept many of the old favorites but also added his own Italian touch. Enjoy appetizers such as stuffed portobello mushrooms, crab cakes, hummus, or spinach/feta dip; salads; pasta; Southwestern wraps and specialities; burgers and sandwiches; pizzas; and a handful of steak and fish entrees available for dinner.

Ive been eating at Silvertron for almost 10 years now since moving down from Chicago. Silvertron was one of my favorite restaurants in town offering good food, friendly service, and at a reasonable price. Lastly, you always left full and usually had leftovers.

After going through some management changes it has now re-opened under the management of a guy named Marco Morosini who I have seen previously working at a number of other places around Birmingham over the last few years.

The atmosphere is greatly improved over the changes made by previous management and is on par with the decor of the original Silvertron Cafe.

The service remains excellent and I always see Marco there working and it isnt below him to refill a glass of water or help out the staff in other ways.

Most importantly are some changes in the food which I am not too happy with. Part of the original Silvertron experience was to get a salad with your entree. And it was a good salad too with homemade dressings. This is no longer the case as salads do not come with the entrees any longer. Very disappointing.

To date, the entrees themselves I have had are reasonably good but portions are much smaller. The fish sandwich has a very small piece of tilapia on it and was not filling at all. Obvously quantity does not equal quality, but the food should still be a good value. I should leave satisfied (without having to order 4 courses) not feeling hungry.

Some of the side items are also not as good. Silvertron used to offer a side of "hot cheddar pasta" but now this is called mac and cheese. The current mac and cheese is half the size, and very greasy. So greasy that it was kind of gross. And the cheese was lumpy. The old cheddar pasta was creamy and tasty.

Lastly, some trademark dishes have been changed for the worse. For example, when my inlaws would come in to visit, we would always get the fried mushroom appetizer. This came with these massive (biggest you ever saw) mushrooms and wonderful white dipping sauce. Now, the mushrooms are just regular 'ol mushrooms like one might get at Publix. Seriouusly,I think they are just plain fried little white mushrooms. They taste ok, but are nothing special. Nothing memorable.

The other trademark dish that has changed for the worse is the Bailey's Brownie. This used to be this multilayered piece of heaven. You could tell that it took some effort to make it. It tasted wonderful. Now, it is just a somewhat dry brownie served in a bowl with ice cream on top, surrounded by whipped cream and oreo cookies with baileys on top. I could make this in 5 minutes at home. Its not disgusting, but not nearly as good as it used to be.

Other dishes I'have had since the change are the quesadilla, which was good, but the guacomole it came with was terrible. I've also had the chicken alfredo which I must say was also quite a disappointment. I used to consider the chicken alfredo a signature dish. The current alfredo sauce was a little bland compared to its predecessor and the chicken was just set on top of the pasta. It was not really incorporated into the dish.

Would I go back? Yes, as the place isn't terrible. But in terms of quality and value, it isn't as good as it was in the past. And it is no longer one of my favorite places in town. Maybe it is still in a transitional period. And maybe I will eventually find the "new" signature dishes at the "new" silvertron.

I agree with the previous poster. Silvertron, in its heyday, was the place for my friends and I to go for family night. However, changes to the menu have driven us from attendance. The new owner would do well to go BACK to the old recipes, make their own salad dressings, cut down on the unbelievable mounts of oil and fat in the dishes, and up the portion sizes.

I miss the fun atmosphere of Silvertron, but not enough to pay for subpar food.

I have visisted this establishment many times with friends in the past for lunch and enjoyed the food. It has been a while since going, but do plan to put it on my to do lists.
Thanks Silvertron for having such wonderful food at great price. See you soon.

I never went to Silvertron during the days before the current owner, but heard good things about it. Unfortunately, today it is just an average to below average eatery with a friendly owner and good service.

I have eaten there three times in the last year with friends who keep going seemingly just because they have gone there for years. Each time has been a disappointment despite personal attention from the owner.

Everything is excellent but the food.

Definately do not agree with the last post. I feel that I need to write this post simply because every time that my wife and I go to eat at Silvertron we love the food and the service and the fact that we always see a lot of business is a sign that we are not the only one that see it that way. This ownership is definately the best out of the three that this restaurant had.
