Cuban Grill 280

5511 Hwy. 280 in Greystone
995-2881
Authentic Cuban cuisine, lunch specials weekdays. Fairly utilitarian atmosphere. City Scene 2005 review gave high marks to the sangria, but mixed drinks were watery. Black bean soup, fried plantain strips, roast pork (in tamales or entrees) drew raves. Yuca and picadillo criollo did not.

Though the location is a bit hidden, this a great restaurant find. Simple cuban food cooked to order with just enough atmosphere to keep one in the mood. I recommend the plaintain chips w/mojo sauce as an appetizer and then go with the pork pieces marinated in garlic sauce. Try the "tres leche" dessert and then finish with a cuban cafe.

Happened by chance onto this restaurant on highway 280 while travelling in Birmingham. The city is fortunate to have a genuine Cuban restaurant, as good as ones in Miami, New York City, and Los Angeles.
All menu items our group tried were genuine, tasty, ample, and got lots of OHs and Ahs from us Cubans in our group; and everyone enjoyed it. Any of the pork or beef entrees are excellent, the Yuca was perfect, and the Flan and Tres Leches desserts were sensational. If you want to discover this subtle and tasty latin cuisine for a change of pace from TexMex try this restaurant. Clean, family atmosphere, low priced and absolutely GENUINE! The head chef & owner is a native of the eastern province of Pinar del Rio, Cuba and knows what he is doing!

I would not say 280 Cubano is a good as those in Miami, or even St. Augustine (Little Havana in that city is our benchmark)- Cuban Grill is very good food. Just not good atmosphere. They do the best they can for a yuppie strip mall. A bit pricey. Tastey expresso. I am happy to have them nearby for our Cuban fix between trips to FLA.
