Today is the last day you can order Christmas tamales through the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama. Since 2003, Birmingham area residents have bought more than 21,000 tamales through this annual fundraising event. HICA uses the money to teach English to Hispanics in the area, to help victims of domestic violence, as well as mental health counseling.

Tamales are available with your choice of chicken, pork, or poblano pepper with Oaxaca cheese. Cost is $15 per ½ dozen and $25 per dozen of each kind. December 12 is the last day to order at http://www.hispanicinterest.org/tamales. You can pick up your tamales Dec. 19 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. at 260 F West Valley Avenue.
