Best Steak in Birmingham?

steak.jpgA reader recently asked us for steak recommendations, and I realized in our "steak and seafood" section, the steak offerings are pretty thin. We actually don't go out for steak that much. There are some places in town to buy some really good steaks -- filets from Mr. P's, aged steaks from Tria, incredible natural meat from Whole Foods -- and we do a pretty mean steak on the grill at home. We have had some wonderful steaks at Highlands and Daniel George. We used to like Copper Grill, even if it was over-the-top, but an initial visit to its replacement, Plaza III, was disappointing (we plan to go back for a second visit before posting a full-fledged review.)

So I posted a question on a couple of boards about where to go for steaks. Some of the suggestions:

  • Fleming's (we did go there several years ago and it was very good, although the atmosphere is a little too chain-like for us and the vaunted "100 wines by the glass" list is mostly the same ol' same ol' stuff you see everywhere else)
  • Michael's
  • Chez FonFon "steak frites" (steak and fries)
  • Village Tavern (when you don't want to spend a fortune)
  • The gorgonzola-crusted steak at Brio
  • Shula's

Any other suggestions?
