They're continuing the stuffed taters Broadway's was known for. Pulled pork, smoked chicken, ribs. In a June 2009 City Scene review, Fletcher Harvey called it "an impressive barbecue contender," with a "menu as basic as the decor." The style, Harvey says, "might be termed 'Bamalina,' indicating influences of North Carolina and Alabama." The house sauce is a thin, sweet, vinegar-based Carolina-style sauce, but there's also a thicker, more tomato-ey version for Alabama palates, he writes. And smoked chicken is served with a North-Alabama-style white sauce. However, he says, the flavor of the meat stands up quite well on its own, even without sauce. From the sides, macaroni and cheese was "singularly good," followed closely by the vinegary potato salad. Banana pudding, however, was a "major disappointment."

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.bhamdining.com/barbecue/woodys-famous-bbq-restaurant.html"><rss:title>Woody's Famous BBQ Restaurant</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.bhamdining.com/barbecue/woodys-famous-bbq-restaurant.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Birmingham Restaurants: East</dc:subject>

8156 U.S. 11, Trussville
655-3343
Named a "hidden gem of dining" in Birmingham News City Scene, March 2009, which notes that owner Rodney Woody started selling his barbecue in a little truck stop along U.S. 11 in 1992, but moved into his own place six years ago. Five meat choices for sandwiches, seven platters, about 10 sides. A November 2007 City Scene review gave high marks for the pulled pork sandwich topped with marinated slaw, smoked turkey sandwich, fried catfish sandwich.
