M&M Barbecue
3921 1st Avenue North
592-9941
A reader recommends this small restaurant downtown, with not only barbecue and sandwiches but also a buffet with several choices of meat and vegetables. Breakfast, too. "I ate there almost every day for two years," writes Doug Richardson. "Good service and the nicest people around."

I tried M&M Barbecue for the first and last time today. From the outside it looked old and rundown. For me, that is a sign of a great BBQ joint. As I walked inside I saw quite a few people eating and expected a great meal. I waited in line and ordered the large BBQ pork plate with squash casserole and baked beans. The sides were great! Then I tried the BBQ. It was sliced and tasted like a rubber tire. First off, pork should always be pulled in my book, second it should not be 80% fat like this was. I could not eat it! After looking around in disbelief I noticed that I was the only one eating the BBQ. The people were nice, but the reason for my visit was crushed by the poor, at best, food. I'd give it a 2 out of 5, and that's just because of the sides. (May 2007)
