Golden Rule has grown into a regional chain, but we include it here because it's still a home-grown business. The first Golden Rule opened its doors in 1891, just a short distance from where the Irondale location is today. The original building was a roadside stop for travelers making the journey to Atlanta. The current Irondale restaurant has been in its location on Hwy. 78 for more than 30 years. The next oldest is the Hoover location, opened in 1973.

We have eaten at several locations and find the Irondale location to be the best, followed by Hoover. Not great BBQ, but not awful. About a 6 on a 10 scale.
The bbq is good here, but not the best in town by any means. The ribs are pretty good, but a little small. The sauce is tasty. Actually, my favorite dish here, which is really good, is a chicken breast plate with two grilled chicken breasts and a creamy sauce.
tastes like what it is, corporate BBQ
The one in Irondale has the best BBQ baked beans I've ever had. The rest of the food is kind of.. meh. Also, FYI, they DO have pulled pork, you just have to know to ask for it.
